How to save money on daily expenses
In today’s economy (wages steady but living costs increasing,)
the average earner is becoming savvy-to get by. People are struggling to put
food on the table, pay bills, and meet other financial commitments, monthly.
Hence, this article! To share some simple ways to get more out of your daily
financial habits.
When it comes to savings: my philosophy is; every bit adds
up! Whatever savings we’re able to get will go towards other goals, which
enables us to keep moving forward in life. Thus, consider these few simple
tips:
Practice bulk buying – whether single or a family,
bulk buying grocery gives you more of what you (or your family) need, whilst
paying less for it. Saving you money on your weekly grocery budget. Over time,
the amount adds up to real big savings.
Strategize your shopping – grocery stores often
markdown prices of fresh foods towards evening, to get the items sold, rather
than thrown away due to regulations! Therefore, target your shopping towards
evening. This will help you buy items like fresh foods (vegetables and poultry)
at a very low cost, saving you heaps. For example, I’ve bought a pack of turkey
wings at my local grocery for a $1.16, down from $16.28. And a couple days ago,
I nabbed 3 packs of chicken maryland for $3,32, down from $18.78. So you can
see, targeted shopping can save you a lot.
Request a better deal – services providers (telco,
energy) won’t tell you if they’re offering a lower price on your current service,
unless you demand it. Therefore, form a habit of calling them up and asking for
a better deal if there’s any. Look up their competitors and what they’re
offering, then use the information to request your services price/service match
the offering, or you’ll move. Often, they’ll give in. They are in competition (amongst
themselves) to secure the largest customer base, so the pressure to please and
keep their customers is to your advantage, thus, use it. I often ring up my
telco for better deals once I see a new offering advertised on the website, and
they always offer me cheaper and cheaper plan each time, reducing my monthly
telco bill. And if your services provider won’t burge, then switch to another
company that’ll offer you an affordable alternative. Don’t stay loyal to your
provider, stay loyal to the service and your wallet.
Reduce unnecessary expenditures – many people today, are paying for subscriptions of various streaming service that the barely have time to watch-wasting money. Thus, evaluate your subscription services; to determine the ones you don’t need or get any value from, and cut that excess. Examine other plans like phones, iPad, laptop, gaming etc. For example, instead of paying for iPad, laptop, and smart phone all at the same time, perhaps you can keep your phone and laptop only. Instead of paying for home internet separately from your mobile internet plan, bundle the two and save money. Get a mobile data plan, and hotspot your home internet off your phone. This is how i currently work. So, I have enough data, without paying double cost. You can adjust these expenses to suit you or your family’s need.
That’s it for now, next time, I’ll share more on daily
financial habits that can help you save.
